Classic kitchen
Classic kitchen with a black island
About the project
A classic kitchen in white with a black island, cornicing and a chandelier.
The challenge
A classic kitchen in an open interior needs enough visual weight to hold its own against the plasterwork and high ceiling, without becoming a wall of cabinetry. Framed fronts demand a disciplined layout because any inconsistency in the spacing is immediately visible.
The solution
The programme was split across three planes. Tall white joinery with framed fronts completes the plasterwork, dark base units form a quiet working band, and the black fluted island is the centre of gravity. A stone-patterned inlay in the floor traces the island zone, so the kitchen has a legible edge despite having no walls.
Materials
Tall white joinery with framed fronts and black base units. A fluted black island, a light worktop and a light stone-patterned splashback. Timber-patterned flooring with a stone-effect inlay and a dark border, black wall lights and a chandelier.
The outcome
The kitchen holds the classic character of the interior without copying it literally. The black island gives it a contemporary centre of gravity, and the contrasting floor inlay marks the boundary of the zone where there are no walls.
